Semi-Finals Set for Women’s Southern Golf Association Amateur & Mid-Amateur Championships

Briefly: Inez Wanamarta, remains undefeated after today’s Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals in the Amateur Division of the WSGA’s Amateur & Mid-Amateur Championship. This morning, in the Round of 16, Wanamarta defeated the No. 16 seed, Cassidy Lambert, with a 6 and 4 win.  The Purdue graduate advanced to the Quarterfinals where she took on the No. 8 seed, Caroline Caudill, defeating the Middle Tennessee State University player 4 and 3. In the Mid-Amateur Division, Adrienne Schmidt defeated the No. 1 seed, Mary Jane Hiestand, 2 and 1 in this morning’s Round of 16. The Virginia native proceeded onto the Quarterfinals where she bested Kentucky local, Susan Stewart, 1 up. This afternoon ended with the Consolation Stroke Play where in the Amateur Division, Clare Gimpel, shot a 74. In the Mid-Amateur Division, Carole Turnage of Texas, took home first place after posting a score of 85.

Golf Course: Hunting Creek Country Club, founded in 1964, has been known for its congeniality as well as its gorgeous track and is located in the rolling hills of Prospect, Kentucky. The club, originally designed by club member Ben Wihry, was upgraded by Holt Golf Design in 2010 for a complete tee-to-green course renovation. Hunting Creek Country Club has hosted almost every major event throughout its history, including the Kentucky Amateur and the Kentucky Open.

Weather: In today’s Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals, the anticipated storms held off until play was completed. Temperatures remained in the low 80’s throughout the day with wind that reached up to 9 mph in the afternoon.

In Contention: In the Amateur Division, No. 2 seed Rylea Marcum defeated Cailyn Henderson 3 and 2 in the Round of 16 and went on to defeat No. 7 seed Michaela Morard in 20 holes. In the Mid-Amateur Division, Julia Potter-Bob defeated Therese Quinn in the Round of 16 with a 6 and 5 win after chipping in on the par-4 Hole No. 4. In the Quarterfinals, the Indiana resident took on the No. 7 seed Anna Morales of Texas, 7 and 5.
