Round of 16 & Quarterfinals Set for Women’s Southern Golf Association Amateur & Mid-Amateur

Briefly: Inez Wanamarta continued her streak as the top seed in the Women’s Southern Amateur & Mid-Amateur Championship at Hunting Creek Country Club in Prospect, Kentucky. She defeated number 16 seed Cassidy Lambert with a 5 and 4 win. Katherine Lemke, the 27 seed, had a notable finish today with a 3 and 2 finish over Taylor Roberts who was the number 6 seed. In the Mid-Amateur Division, Adrienne Schmidt won her match 5 and 4 to move on to play top seed Mary Jane Hiestand who had a Bye from the first round. Number 2 seed Julia Potter-Bobb also had an impressive win today with a 9 and 8 win. The players will head into two more rounds of match play tomorrow with Quarterfinal rounds being played tomorrow afternoon.

Golf Course: Hunting Creek Country Club, founded in 1964, has been known for its congeniality as well as its gorgeous track and is located in the rolling hills of Prospect, Kentucky. The club, originally designed by club member Ben Wihry, was upgraded by Holt Golf Design in 2010 for a complete tee-to-green course renovation. Hunting Creek Country Club has hosted almost every major event throughout its history, including the Kentucky Amateur and the Kentucky Open.

Weather: Tuesday’s conditions were much more enjoyable as opposed to yesterday’s storms with cloudy skies in the morning and partly sunny in the afternoon. The high was 82 degrees, and the low was 64 degrees. Humidity was relatively high throughout the day staying at around 65%.

In Contention: Tuesday’s matches saw seven of the top eight Amateur seeds moving on from the round of 32. The 6 seed, Taylor Roberts, fell to Katherine Lemke who had a 3 & 2 win. In the Mid-Amateur Division, top seed Mary Jane Hiestand had a Bye and seeds two, three, and four (Julia Potter-Bobb, Anna Schultz, Lucy Nunn) won their matches to advance to Wednesday’s rounds.

What’s Next: Day 2 of Match Play begins at 8:00 a.m., and the Quarterfinals begin in the afternoon for the Amateur and Mid-Amateur divisions at 1:30 p.m. The Stroke Play Consolation bracket will also be Wednesday afternoon beginning at 2:10 p.m.
